Instructors

Thirty-plus years combined at the table.

Every lesson is taught by Darla or Paula, who between them have more than 30 years of Mahjong experience across American, Chinese, and Hong Kong styles. Small groups mean you get a teacher's attention, not a lecture. Darla is also a tile and mat distributor, so students can buy non-branded sets and mats at discounted prices.

Darla

Darla, Mahjong Queen of Montgomery, teaches American, Chinese, and Hong Kong Mahjong, and beginners are her favorite students. As a Mahjong tile and mat distributor, she sells non-branded tiles and mats at discounted prices and pairs them so your table looks as good as the game feels. She believes a good game deserves a pretty table, and her Mahjong room designs will leave you delighted. Every lesson comes with fun and a little sparkle. Play. Sparkle. Win. As always, cheers to the One Bam Bird!

Paula

Paula teaches alongside Darla and brings decades at the table to every lesson. Patient with first-timers and sharp with strategy for players who want to win more often. Paula is an avid Mahjong player and first learned when her husband was employed in Singapore. She is a well established instructor and adds a wealth of talent to the team and our customers. If it's Mahjong, Paula has your rack stacked with knowledge.

Teaches: American, Chinese, Hong Kong

Over 30 years combined experience. Both instructors teach the same lesson menu at the same prices, in all three styles. Lessons are held at Darla's, Paula's, your home, or a community clubhouse. Ask for either by name when you book, or let us match you.
How we teach

Play first, memorize later.

Hands on from minute one

You touch tiles in the first five minutes. Rules come as you need them, not as a lecture.

Never more than eight

Two tables at most, so nobody waits and nobody hides.

Same lesson, any style

American, Chinese, or Hong Kong: same menu, same prices, same patience.
